Welcome

My name is David C. Lannan and I am a former photojournalist with a design background. My official start in the journalism industry was working for a small local newspaper while I debated attending college. I started at the small newspaper writing feature stories accompanied by photographs I took and doing book, theater and movie reviews. I wrote the occasional news article. While attending university I had a short stint doing news and page layout for my hometown newspaper but ironically was fired for "conflict of interest" because I was volunteering for a cable company broadcasting the city council meetings I was also writing stories about. One of my instructors laughed about the whole thing because many of my news and feature articles had been on the front page of the small newspaper most of the time I worked there. I went on to work for a few more small newspapers doing feature writing, photography, news, page layout and advertising design.

I didn't get famous or rich from these jobs though I did win a few awards along with co-workers for photography, features and page design from the Hoosier State Press Association and the National Newspaper Association. Then life took an odd twist and I ended up working again for a former publisher who had launched a shopper magazine. Though it only lasted a few years his business partner managed to find something for me to do and more than 20 years later I still work for him. Job responsibilities have changed over the years but it has been a learning experience.

One of the reasons for this blog is to express some creativity I don't often get to use with my changed responsibilities. I do more design and printing than writing. The journalism experience (the design aspect mostly) I received in college and over many years is still something I use in my current job. 

I have been researching and pondering a name for this project, this blog. I don't expect to make any money but it's not the reason I am doing it. I was looking for a creative outlet to showcase my writing (maybe photography and design later) by sharing information about up and coming artists, shooting stars and lesser known musicians I enjoy. (Web design is not my thing so this may be clumsy at first)

I selected (so far) Stargazing Bullfrog because this is about potential music stars and one of my favorite nicknames someone gave me was Bullfrog. When I asked why he said it's because I never stay in one place too long. He was used to me taking pictures, volunteering wherever I was needed and basically hopping from one task to another. I'm not a very good spectator because I don't like sitting still. If I'm watching TV I'm usually playing a game or writing something.

Without music life would be boring! So hopefully I introduce you to people you may know little about or give new insight into familiar faces.
