Another Clarksville Creative Sound artist, Terry LeMaster spins bluegrass with a Christian message in his originals. In fact Pickin’ with Jesus is his mantra of sorts. On his YouTube channel he writes “(Pickin on Jesus) writing and playing gospel music is what I like also singing covers because these old songs are just that cool.”

He first became interested in music when he was 5, listening to his uncle play in a bluegrass band. He picked up a guitar when he was 15 and began playing. He wrote his first song in 1972. In 2005, he moved to Louisiana and began playing in the Down Home bluegrass band. It was then he wrote a song called “Picking on Jesus,” and he realized his opportunity to share his testimony through music. After writing a few more songs he got the confidence and sent “Picking on Jesus” to Curt Ryle who signed him. Now he has a 7 song EP with more music on the way.

Listening to Terry reminds me of the visits to little country churches, or not so little, where the pastor might sing or play guitar along with members of the congregation. Back when church music had a message about what God has done for us. We would have revivals and the visiting groups would be southern gospel or bluegrass.

Terry plays one of his originals, Picking on Jesus, from an EP with the same name.

This was the first of Terry's songs I heard, On Heavenly High. So far it might be my favorite of his originals.
