AVIV

From the duo of Jadyn Rylee and Aviv Cohen this was one of my favorites from both artists. Their cover of Aerosmith's Dream On showcased their powerful voices, from when they were 10 or 11. I could see, or hear, how Jadyn earned the nickname Tiny Tornado.

One of AVIV's original releases from two years ago, Love of Your Life

One of AVIV's original songs, Failed English

I first heard Aviv Cohen sing when she and fellow Canadian Jadyn Rylee teamed up for an amazing cover of “Dream On” by Aerosmith when they were maybe 10 or 11. It was this video that provided an example for the reason Jadyn had earned the nickname “Tiny Tornado.“

AVIV grew up in a large household with four siblings. She recalled that when most families were going to the mall her family was headed for the record store.

AVIV began studying piano when she was six. She developed her voice and later began playing guitar. She turned her everyday poetry into songs she performed for family and friends.

Her journey as a performer began in film. She found herself in parts for shows like American Gothic, L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, and Milk Kids. At the age of 10, AVIV shifted her sights to music. She joined a band and learned to play on her brother’s red electric Les Paul.

AVIV has a talent for unique songwriting and imagery. Her song "Girls in Red" sounds as if it is being streamed through a rotary phone. "Drowning in the Culture," the title track of her first studio album, sounds as if it is being played underwater. She continues building a purely art and expression driven brand. Her vintage visuals and background distortion are part of what makes her stand out and what she most likely desires while co-producing each track.

AVIV's music style is somewhere between pop and grunge and it is pleasing to listen to. Her influences include Elliott Smith, Radiohead, Lorde and Olivia Rodrigo. AVIV has experimented with a variety of genres but has developed her own unique style. She opened for Imagine Dragons on their arena tour.

AVIV says, “Music keeps us together. It’s crazy how we can share and relate to so many things – we’re not alone.” And her music does just that - draws us to the relatable emotions we experience.

Another great original, Drowning in the Culture

An original, Black Coffee, featuring AVIV and OCTAVIO the Dweeb. I don't really get how the song title ties to the video but it's a good song. The second video (below) makes more sense.

"Girls in Red" showcases Aviv as an artist. songwriter and musician.

A few songs AVIV has performed, written or co-wrote:

You Feel Like Depression

Jimmy's House

Running Shoes

How Can You Smile?
