Allyson Galloway didn’t come from spotlight or luxury—she came from survival. Raised in Frayser, one of Memphis, Tennessee’s toughest neighborhoods, her early life was a constant battle. Her mother struggled with addiction, her father was often absent and gripped by alcoholism, and home life was a mix of hunger, chaos, and heartbreak. “I never thought I would amount to anything,” she admits. But deep down, Allyson always had a spark—and music was her escape.

Even through the turmoil, music was always close. Her grandparents, who eventually took her in, only allowed country music in the house. Legends like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley shaped her earliest understanding of storytelling through song.

“My life lessons all came from country music,” she says. At school, she shined in every Christmas play and choir performance, stealing moments in the spotlight to feel seen, heard, and valued.

Q&A WITH ALLYSON GALLOWAY

DL: How did you first get started in music?
AG: I started music after singing cover songs on tiktok. People seem to like my voice but when i started writing music, it became so much more. I fell in love with writing. I was able to let out feelings i had never dreamed possible in a beautiful way. Music quickly became therapy to me in every way.

DL: Did you have singing and/or music lessons?
AG: I was a singer all my life from a very young age. I was in choir and band throughout middle school and high school. I excelled in music class.

DL: What instruments do you play, if any?
AG: I have played every instrument. I started by playing the clarinet when i was younger, moved onto the trumpet and other horn instruments. Then began working with guitars, drums, bass and Piano. I mostly took to the piano because that's what my instructor enjoyed the most too.

DL: Are there other singers or musicians in your family?
AG: My grandparents pushed me to use music as an outlet for childhood trauma.

DL: What are some of your favorite songs you have written and why?
AG: I really like the song I wrote called "Nobody Wins" because it speaks truth, pain and love. It matters so much to me because I relate so much. Even with my own words sometimes I just need to hear them out loud.

DL: Who are some of the biggest musical influences in your life?
AG: Queen is a huge inspiration, along with Bob Dillion, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Tim Mcgraw, Garth Brooks, Eminem, Jelly Roll and Hardy. Morgan Wallan with Ashley Gorley as a writer.

DL: What is your favorite style or genre of music and why?
AG: I really like rap and country because it speaks the truth and sometimes tells a good story,

DL: What awards have you won or been nominated for?
AG: I was nominated for the Music Video Of the Year 2025 Josie Awards

DL: What is a unique opportunity you have had when it comes to performing?

AG: I performed at several locations in Key West for the Songwriters week. Performing on the beach was magical.

DL: Where is/are your favorite place(s) to perform?
AG: The beach so far.

DL: Do you remember the first song you sang in public?
AG: Yes, it was terrible lol

DL: What is your inspiration for your songs?
AG: I just want to tell stories about my life.

DL: What do you find most challenging about the music business?
AG: Financial Stability

DL: What is your favorite part of the music business and why? Your least favorite?
AG: Favorite part about Music is the people. Least favorite part about music is the judgement.

DL: If you could perform with anyone in the music business who would it be and why?
AG: I would love to perform with Eminem

DL: What advice do you have for anyone wanting to get in the music business as a singer/songwriter or musician?
AG: Find someone you trust to help.

DL: Have you always wanted to be a singer/musician? If not, and you couldn’t be in the music business what career would you choose and why?
AG: I used to work at a corporate job, Ive been a server at restaurants and i also took time to go to college for nursing. I honestly would be a stay at home mom if it had the opportunity to choose.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Allyson’s music speaks directly to “the broken ones,” people who’ve experienced loss, addiction, poverty, and pain. One of the most powerful moments of her career came when a terminally ill man reached out. He told Allyson that he wanted her music playing in his final moments. For seven months, he listened to her daily during chemotherapy. She never forgot his name or his story. Allyson now lives in Mississippi.
